I was honoured to attend the Dedication of the Lincoln Jewish Memorial Stone at the International Bomber Command Centre yesterday evening.
The Memorial Stone commemorates the lives of the historic Lincoln Jewish community and more than 600 Jewish aircrew of Bomber Command who lost their lives during WW2. The dedication ceremony was incredibly moving and enabled us to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Memorial Stone is modelled on the Magdala Stone which is an ancient 1st century stone discovered near the Sea of Galilee in 2009. It was carved with images and articles from the Second Temple era in Jerusalem prior to its destruction by the Romans in 70CE.
Thank you to Phil Kerry, owner of Goldholme Stone Quarry, for donating the Memorial Stone, to the IBCC for providing a fitting home and to the ICEJ for their involvement in bringing the Lincoln Jewish Memorial Stone to Lincolnshire.
