Conservative candidate for Sleaford and North Hykeham, Dr Caroline Johnson, has welcomed the news that the Government will invest £50m to build the Lincoln Eastern Bypass.
Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, today announced a £3billion package for improvements on road networks which includes the £50m for the new bypass.
Work will start in January and be completed by December 2019.
This investment follows discussions between Mr Grayling and Dr Johnson in Great Gonerby last week over securing investment to ease congestion on roads in Lincolnshire.
As part of her plan to deliver a brighter future for Sleaford and North Hykeham, Dr Johnson has pledged to tackle congestion and provide better roads for local communities.
Dr. Caroline Johnson said: “This announcement is fantastic news for local people and I am thrilled as many in Lincolnshire will be.
“As a doctor, I have commuted from my home in Sudbrook to hospitals around the region, so I know first-hand how urgently we must relieve congestion in our towns and villages.
“If elected Member of Parliament for Sleaford and North Hykeham on December 8th I will continue to lobby the Government for extra investment on road networks locally working closely with Conservative MPs and the county council.”
Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling MP, said: “Caroline made a very persuasive case for extra funds to help ease congestion in Lincolnshire when we spoke last week in Great Gonerby.
“I am delighted to announce £50m provided by the Government to build the new Lincoln Eastern Bypass which will help commuters and businesses immensely.
“This successful lobbying by Caroline, Lincoln MP Karl McCartney, and Lincolnshire County Council shows that Conservatives are delivering for ordinary working people across Lincolnshire.”
