I recently went to the lovely village of Barrowby to meet with the representatives of the local Neighbourhood Plan Group and members of the Parish Council, who raised their concerns about proposed new housing developments in the village.
There are three proposed sites for these developments which could potentially add around 230 new dwellings to Barrowby, giving rise to concern about the impact on highway safety, infrastructure, school places and the character of the area; particularly given the significant number of new houses relative to the current size of the village.
I am not against all development in our area, and new houses do need to be built, but I believe that any new housing developments must be in keeping with their surroundings as far as possible, and must be of a scale that can fit within our communities.
Whilst I do not have direct influence over planning decisions as an MP, I have passed on residents’ concerns and I hope that the council will make the right decisions for Barrowby.
