The Health and Social Care Committee have held a topical session about youth vaping. Witnesses giving evidence in Parliament included Laranya Caslin, Headteacher of St George’s Academy in Sleaford, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and representatives from the industry.
In the session we raised questions to the panel on a range of matters connected to youth vaping including flavourings, advertisement, education and, of course, concerns relating to the overall impact of vaping on children’s health.
Of particular concern were reports of popcorn lung, the potential adverse health complications some experience when vaping and the toxicity levels found in the vape liquid when accidentally drunk by toddlers as discussed here by Dr Helen Stewart from RCPCH.
Today, I will be holding a Westminster Hall debate on the topic of electronic cigarette use where I will be discussing how we can tackle this increasingly prevalent issue.
