Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare, but every day parents up and down the country are caring for children with life-limiting illnesses. For those families children’s hospices and palliative care services are a necessary lifeline, but some of our hospice services are struggling for cash, and Acorns, our largest service, has had to announce the closure of one of its hospices.
In support of Children's Hospice Week, my APPG for Children Who Need Palliative Care hosted a drop-in event last week for MPs to find out more. I am enormously grateful to the charity Together for Short Lives, who do excellent work in supporting the APPG.
Having raised this issue at Health Questions and PMQs last week, I have now secured a debate in the House of Commons on the evening of Monday 1 July to push the minister for more funding to ensure really good palliative care for every child who needs it.
