I brought together representatives from Lincolnshire County Council and Highways England to run through concerns I have relating to local roads.
B1190 Doddington
I wanted to push for further action on the ongoing problem of HGVs using the B1190 through Doddington as a shortcut, making the road unsafe for locals. There is a clear need and local desire for weight limit signage. LCC have previously explored options on both signage and traffic flow management measures but met with huge predicted costs. They will look at this again. In particular they will look at whether limiting traffic in one direction only (from A57-A46) would be more affordable as it does not require changes to Highways England network.
There are also emerging plans for a crossing to be installed in Doddington itself and I expect to be updated on progress in the coming months.
B1188 Ruskington
I also raised the once again the need for a crossing in Ruskington. Following an approach by Winchelsea School, due to their concerns about their children, I have been pushing for a safe crossing point on this road. Progress with this has been frustratingly slow but I was pleased to hear that LCC surveys have been done and show that the threshold is met for a crossing. I am now seeking a further meeting on this with the Highways Manager to get an update on when residents will see this necessary measure installed.
A1/A46/A17 junction
I also raised the problem of high volumes of traffic jams along the A1. Highways England have developed proposals for this junction which make the A46 an uninterrupted dual carriageway. However I explained to HE the concerns I am hearing from local residents who use this junction that the proposed junction improvement will have little or no benefit to those who live locally or those who use the A1 in particular.
The consultation on the A46 Newark Bypass is now officially closed but I have been informed that those who still wish to comment can do so. I would strongly urge those with concerns about these plans to get in touch with Highways England as soon as possible by emailing [email protected].
