I welcome the Government's commitment to protecting victims of crime, making sure they are at the heart of the criminal justice system and ensuring justice is served to dangerous criminals.
One key expectation of victims of crime is that justice will be served and prisoners will not escape. I know that many of my constituents have been concerned and anxious about recent abscondments from an open prison in Lincolnshire.
I am pleased that the Government have introduced a tough three-step test for open prisons to tackle these abscondments and a ministerial check on parole decisions to release the most serious offenders so that we can protect the public.
