An honour to make my first contribution from the shadow front bench today in my role as Shadow Minister of State in Health and Social Care.
Under the previous Government’s New Hospital Programme, 6 hospitals are already open to patients and a further 20 are currently either due to open in this financial year or are under construction.
I pressed the Secretary of State today to commit to delivering on these projects as soon as possible for the benefit of the patients they will serve rather than delay this work with a lengthy review. I am concerned that the Secretary of State was unable to commit to a timeline for his review which will leave local communities with uncertainty. I urge the Department to do everything they can to deliver on these projects as soon as possible so that local people can start accessing these facilities.
