Today I met with the Prime Minister to discuss my concerns about sharp rises in teen vaping and what this could mean for the future of our children’s health. In particular, I highlighted how more and more young people becoming attracted to, and using, brightly coloured, flavoured disposable vapes is becoming a real problem for schools and parents in Sleaford and North Hykeham.
I welcome that the Government have been listening to calls for more to be done and have launched the illicit vapes enforcement squad and a call for evidence to investigate the issue further.
I was also pleased to speak with the Prime Minister about where I believe we can go further on regulating vaping while ensuring it remains an important quitting tool for smokers. My proposal includes my Ten Minute Rule Bill on banning disposable vapes, changing legislation to look at stricter sales and advertising rules and bringing in similar rules for vaping as smoking when in public places.
I am grateful to the PM for his time today and for his continued interest in tackling youth vaping.
