Last night, MPs voted on legislation to give the government new powers to tackle youth vaping. Having heard many reports of children in the constituency becoming addicted to vaping and having campaigned tirelessly for restrictions to be brought forward to tackle the issue, I wholeheartedly support this commitment.
The new powers will tackle youth vaping by restricting flavours and regulating the way that vapes are sold and packaged to make them less appealing to children. I have maintained through my work in Parliament that young people have become particularly attracted to the bright colours and sweet flavours of disposable vapes in particular. The ban on the sale and supply of disposable vapes will be under existing environmental legislation and is planned to take effect from April 2025.
We must ensure that these regulations protect our children's health, and I look forward to continuing to work with the Government on this commitment to tackle the recent surge in youth vaping during the Bill's passage through Parliament.
