I met with the NFU, our Police and Crime Commissioner, and some of my fellow Lincolnshire MPs to continue our discussion on what more can be done to tackle hare coursing. This crime not only threatens one of our most beloved native species, but also leads to property damage, crop destruction and intimidation of farmers.
We have identified some possible solutions: an amendment to the law giving police and magistrates powers to reclaim kennelling costs from offenders for dogs seized; ensuring magistrates and crown prosecutors receive consistent training on the impact of rural crime and access to clearer guidance; and enabling criminal behaviour orders to be applicable across a wider area. I have raised these with the Solicitor General and will continue to push on this.
