Some time ago, I was approached by Winchelsea Primary School in Ruskington regarding road safety concerns on the B1188.
I met with the head and governors to discuss their concerns further about the safety of the children travelling to and from school, and witnessed first-hand the number of cars whizzing by the stretch of road at the end of the school path.
My team distributed questionnaires to residents in Ruskington to ask how the traffic and speed of drivers affected local people. The survey responses enabled me to put together feedback on residents’ key concerns about the road. With the findings, I made the case to Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) about the need for a crossing facility by Winchelsea Primary School on the B1188.
Although the process has taken longer than I hoped, I am very pleased that the plans for installation of a zebra crossing have been finalised and works are due to commence on the 4th April.
I am grateful to those at LCC for all their help in moving this project forward and I look forward to seeing children able to cross the road more safely.
