During my meeting with Cllr Stephen Roe, Mayor of North Hykeham, we discussed a range of current projects and issues in the town. As part of this, we met with Revd Peter Collins from Hykeham Parish Church and I was incredibly moved by his accounts of how loneliness is impacting members of the community which he encounters regularly when conducting his parish visits.
Social isolation has been increased by the Covid-19 pandemic and I am therefore planning to raise particular awareness of current outreach projects, support services and clubs for residents to take part in during my senior citizens fair in North Hykeham in May.
Reaching out to neighbours, friends and all members of the community is incredibly important and I hope the event will provide an opportunity for everyone to come together to highlight the various social opportunities, sporting clubs and hobbies for residents to enjoy together. Clubs include Hykeham Art Club, Singing for Fun and Friendships Club and One NK who will be on hand to speak to residents.
