I held a Westminster Hall Debate in Parliament where I highlighted some shocking recent statistics and experiences of children vaping.
I am aware that there have been 8 cases of children collapsing after vaping in just one school in Sleaford. Parents are also worried about the dangerous ingredients found in vapes collected by Lincolnshire Police in another school which contained the likes of antifreeze.
A recent report from Healthwatch who surveyed children and young people in Blackpool also found that 31% of children and young people claimed to vape or sometimes vape. This included 1 in 10 ten to eleven year-olds surveyed were found to vape and almost 1 in 2 sixteen to seventeen year-olds vaping.
As we heard recently in the Health and Social Care Committee session on youth vaping, e-cigarettes remain important for smokers wanting to quit but youth vaping is becoming increasingly worrying. I am clear that more education, tougher sales rules and addressing the attractiveness and cheapness of flavoured disposable vapes are all key areas that I hope the Minister will look at further in the Government's work on tackling vape use amongst children.
I understand the Government are analysing feedback on youth vaping currently and I look forward to hearing the outcomes of this investigation as soon as possible.
