Today Conservative MPs voted to oppose the Government's Family Farm Tax.
The Prime Minister looked farmers in the eye and promised them he would respect them. He has broken his promise by introducing the Family Farm Tax. Labour MPs had the opportunity today to vote for our farmers and oppose this disastrous tax, but instead, they made a political choice to plough ahead with these hikes.
The Government doesn't understand the impact this will have on our rural communities and higher food prices for all.
The point is not just how many farmers this will affect, but all the farmers that might be affected by the emotional impact of all of this. Farming families will be expected to keep working, knowing that if they lost a relative in unexpected circumstances, they could lose their farms through these changes. It is a clear tax on tragedy.
